Why You’re Never Too Old To Become a Nurse

Posted about 4 years ago by Meredith Roberts

Becoming a nurse is a lifelong dream for some; however, sometimes that dream doesn’t become a reality until later in life. Thanks to second-degree nursing programs across the country, it’s possible to become a nurse at any age.

I was a second degree nurse, who got my bachelors in nursing after starting with a BA, and have now practiced for over 30 years. Nurses need to share how it is an amazing career, with many pathways and leadership roles. I have had students who became nurses after retiring from teaching at 55, or who were war veterans, and one had been a doctor in another country. My oldest student was in their 70's, but as the article shares, there is no age limit, and there are many reasons and benefits to entering the profession, and more nurses are needed.
