Health Care Groups Launch Cannabis Education Program for Vermont Nurses
Goal is to educate all Vermont nurses before the implementation of the adult cannabis use market in 2022.
ANA-Vermont and the Vermont Cannabis Nurses Association (VTCNA) is excited to announce a joint partnership which will provide cannabis education to Vermont nurses and healthcare professionals. This partnership is designed to give nurses access to affordable comprehensive education on the medicinal uses for cannabis. As the state moves towards fully supporting the use of medical cannabis, it is critical that nurses and healthcare professionals have a solid understanding of the current research, science and medical uses for cannabis.
In addition to offering affordable nursing CE courses, developed by nationally known medical cannabis expert and President of the American Cannabis Nurses Association, Eloise Theisen, MS, RN, AGPCNP-BC, ANA-Vermont and VTCNA will be hosting two interactive live panels. The first panel will feature medical and legal experts practicing in the medical cannabis field and the second panel will feature Vermont patients and caregivers. These panels will be free.
“Nurses are consistently rated the most trusted profession,” says Jessilyn Dolan, President, VTCNA President and Vice President, ANA-Vermont. “But not all nurses are educated about medical cannabis. Some are still adjusting to a post-prohibition mentality. Others are interested but haven’t had access to the appropriate training. This program,” adds Dolan,” will hopefully help level up medicinal cannabis care throughout the state.” (Click HERE to watch a recent interview Jessilyn did with WCAX on medical cannabis.)
"There is a knowledge gap in how to utilize cannabis safely” says Meredith Roberts, Executive Director of ANA-VT. “The new Cannabis Control Board provides oversight, but health professionals need to be educated on best practice guidelines based on research for accurate understanding of the effects, interactions, and what conditions will best be addressed by new cannabis healing protocols that may be useful, such as reducing anxiety, or arthritis pain."
