Front-line workers left out of hazard pay ask to be included next time

Vermont’s hazard pay legislation was adopted this summer (bill/status/2020/H.965)...employers said that the federal unemployment supplement of $600 per week was making it difficult for them to attract and retain employees, and hazard pay would help. Initially, lawmakers sought to compensate front-line employees in an array of industries such as groceries, child care, and nursing homes. But the bill that eventually passed included only public health, public safety, health care and human services workers.
